Pic commission and apologies for a non-productive weekend...

First off, I have to point everyone towards Kracken's wonderful job on the strip chess pic for "Coming Home" (1=2, PG for suggestiveness, probably not quite work-safe) that I commissioned from her. So very perfect for the story. *happy sigh*

Now, I have to apologize for a very non-productive weekend in fandom terms. I've pretty much been offline till just now. Since... hmm, practically since I posted the last story installment this past week, actually. I was on a few times at work, during lunch or break or while babysitting new computer setups, but I haven't been on much, if at all, at home. Instead, I've read, watched TV, played Civilization IV, bathed the dog, helped take down the last of the Christmas decorations, and pretty much steered clear of fandom (well, GW fandom anyway) entirely. I needed a break; hopefully I'll be back in a more productive frame of mind now. *crosses fingers*

And on the topic of reading, I zoomed my way through a whole stack of newly-arrived TS zines, plus several books from my rather large backlog of books-I've-bought-but-haven't-gotten-around-to-reading:

the books:

Gena Showalter's Heart of the Dragon - Published by Harlequin's HQN imprint, but really much more on the fantasy side of things than romance. An interesting 377 pages, and I'll definitely be picking up the sequel when it comes out next month. Not really "keeper" material, but definitely worth the purchase price.

Cindy Dees's Medusa Rising - Published by Harlequin's Silhouette Bombshell imprint, and, like a sizeable chunk of that line, a great action-packed story with lots of great action scenes to feed the muse. *grin* The authors of the Bombshell books usually know whereof they write - many of them are former or current Air Force pilots, cops, lawyers, spies, etc. The Athena Force and Medusa Project books are particularly good.

Susan Sizemore's Gates of Hell - Published by Speculation Press, who I've never heard of before. Bought on a whim because I was intrigued by a short story of hers published alongside one of Christine Feehan's in an anthology. Very unique sci-fi story that kept me up way, way too late last night. A little grittier than I usually like, but intriguing and unique enough to keep me reading. Probably not a "keeper", but then, I'm trying to trim down the book collection a bit.

Christine Feehan's Night Game - Third in her Ghostwalker series. Very good book - but it turned a previously only slightly pesky plot bunny into one with some serious teeth. Ouch. *tries to shake off bunny and fails* Great. Like I needed another one of these critters chewing on me right now. :P *sighs* Definite keeper.

Christine Feehan's Oceans of Fire - Part of her Drake Sisters series. A fun read, but the series itself isn't one of my favourites. Maybe a keeper, maybe not.

the TS zines (all J/B slash):

Star Crossed: Genesis by KAM - Great J/B sci fi AU. Stayed up much too late finishing it on Friday night (well, more like Saturday morning *sweatdrops*). Definite keeper.

Other Lives by Gena Fisher - Anthology of four TS AUs. Very good, another keeper.

Other Lives 2 - Another anthology of TS AUs. Also good, also a keeper.

Rhythms of the Heart by J.M. Griffin - I'd read the first two "Heartbeats" stories online, but the sequels were new to me. Very good, like all J.M. Griffin's stories. Another keeper.

Love & Guns 1 - Some good stories, some so-so. Some I'd read elsewhere, either in other zines or online, but some were new to me. Maybe a keeper.

Catalyst by Tiger Tyger - And this would be Thursday night's excuse for staying up way-too-late. Great J/B get-together - angst, emotional h/c, and enough warm fuzzies to balance things out. *happy sigh* Very definitely a keeper.

*looks at list* Umm, yeah. I'm a really fast reader. *sweatdrops* Well, offline, that is; reading online, I tend to have to slow down or else I end up skimming and missing too much.

Now, time to put the non-research-related books away and bury the Civ IV disk somewhere inconvenient for a while, so I can get back to writing again...

That's a really great commission. She did a wonderful job. I'm very happy for you that it turned out so well.

I still get a snicker out of that strip chess thing... :P
