Just finished updating my website with stories by three new guest authors, two GW and one TS (my first TS guest author, in fact!). Stories added: "Coin Operated Boy" by BleedToBlue (GW, 1+/x2, one-shot), "Alone" by Jayni (GW, 1+/x2, WIP, Prologue-Chapter 9), and four TS stories by The Amazing Maurice - "Perfect" (J/B, spirit animals, one-shot), "Lessons Learned: a story in three parts" (J/B, angst/humour, get-together, one-shot), "Light Up My Room" (J/B, spirit animals, angst/humour, first time, one-shot), and "Alpha" (gen, angst/humour, Sen Too crossover with Discworld, one-shot).

I hope to eventually add more TS fics by guest authors, but it won't happen very quickly since most TS authors are archived at 852 Prospect and I'm a bit undecided as to whether to bother requesting archive permission when the stories are already at a major archive. Plus, the TS fandom doesn't seem to have the same approach to archiving stories as the GW fandom does. Most TS authors seem to post their stories to one major archive (852 for slash) and possibly to their own LJ and/or site, but there isn't the same proliferation of smaller archives with overlapping content that flourish in the GW fandom, so I'm not too sure that very many TS authors would even be receptive to having specific fics archived elsewhere.

I think GW fandom does a great job of having stories archived in more than one place, which is good, since so many people have closed their personal sites and moved on. I'm finding that in PoT fandom, it's a big disadvantage that there are so few archives. Everything is being posted in LJ, and no one is organizing it. I'd hate to be new in the fandom, and having to go through the main comm just to find stories for specific pairings.

My opinion is that you should try asking a few authors if you can archive their stories. You really don't have anything to lose, and you may find that authors appreciate having a backup place to be archived.

I like the way that stories are archived in GW fandom, too. It's nice knowing that they won't vanish off the net just because one site disappears (even if only temporarily, as happened with all the Squidge-hosted sites like 852 Prospect just this past week when the host had DSL problems). But then, the TS fandom seems to have more uber-possessive authors who want to be able to make everything they ever wrote vanish just that easily. I've noticed that there's a few of the "newer" GW authors with that same attitude, but I don't think there's quite as many in GW fandom. Doesn't make any sense to me, as either an author or a reader, but... *shrugs*

However, that being said, it probably is worth at least asking. It's just going to be a little tougher to choose which stories to request, since most of them are already on a major fandom-specific archive so I can't use that as a way to help determine which fics to request, as I did when I started archiving GW guest fics. Since I'll have to work the archive stuff in around my own writing, it's going to take a while to get things rolling.

I just hit the archive and clicking around found something missing... Under the viewuser pane, the URL of the author's listed website (I was in Jay's page) starts with http://calic0cat.com/www. etc etc etc. I wasn't sure which authors have that string of code in, but it can't be all because I hit another author by random and the author website link was up fine.

PS. I love your archive, but please please don't take too long to update your GW fics! =)

Oops. It's a sort-of-bug in the efiction script that crops up whenever a website address gets entered without the http:// part on the front. I did a quick browse through the user database and I think I've got them all fixed. Thanks for pointing that out!

Don't worry, I'm definitely still working on my own GW stories. Hopefully, I'll have the next "Kindergarten Heero" ready sometime this month. *crosses fingers* Most of the other things that I'm working on won't be posted till they're complete; four GW stories and one TS story are actually fic-for-donation stories, so they'll go to their respective requesters before they get posted for everyone else to read.

Hi, Although the links to the chapters of Jayni's story are there - the actual chapter content isn't.

Argh. Okay, fixed it. Every once in a while, something seems to hiccup and this happens. Usually, I check the newly-uploaded stories, but it got late on me last night and I didn't take the time to double-check them. :P Thanks for the heads-up!
