Shoulda stayed in bed this morning...
Aug. 20th, 2003 09:55 pmOuch. That's all I can say. Big, big *ouch*.
Due to the power shortage, I didn't have to go in to work today (or Monday, or Tuesday, or most of last Friday...). This morning, my dad suggested we try hitching my Icelandic horse to the cart for the first time. I waffled, not sure it was a good idea; he thought it was. I caved.
Stupid me.
So far, I've been hurt *twice* by that horse and on both occasions it's been when I've gone against my own better judgement and done what my dad recommended (seeing as he's got more horse-handling experience than me). This time, I've got a badly scraped/bruised ankle (where she stepped on it), a nasty bump on my head and lovely gravel abrasions on my scalp from where my head hit the ground when she had hysterics and I couldn't get out of the way fast enough of her, the cart, and my dad. Oh, plus I have a very sore, bruised hip where I landed on the cart shaft and a sore, bruised lower back/butt where the horse landed on *me* when she tripped over the cart (she busted the harness and was dragging the cart, then turned and tried to go *over* it).
I did not *quite* blackout. I think. Though I definitely came darn close. I'm dreading the kind of shape I'll be in tomorrow morning; muscles always hurt worse the day *after* an injury.
Anyway, next part of Fragments should be out tomorrow (would have been out today but my head hurts too much to concentrate and it still needs a final editing pass).

Date: 2003-08-21 02:15 am (UTC)And you think you didn't black out?! Should that not be checked into? o.O
And here I had imagined you having a couple of horribly boring days off, sitting around in the dark twiddling your thumbs waiting for the power to return to normal. *snerk* Silly me...

Oh that sounds too painful
I check every day to see if you have added more to one of your fics. I love them all!!

Date: 2003-08-22 03:23 am (UTC)Painkillers - only Advil and only before bedtime and this morning before work (I would get hurt the day before the one morning this week that I actually had to work...). I hardly ever take painkillers - which means that when I *do*, they're pretty effective, thank heavens...
Re: Oh that sounds too painful
Date: 2003-08-22 03:26 am (UTC)I like horses, I like riding, and I like driving them hitched to carts/wagons. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be doing either with this mare. She's just a little too high-strung for my skill level.

Date: 2003-08-22 03:34 am (UTC)And yeah, I don't *think* I blacked out. If I did, it was only for a few seconds since I never let go of the rope; my dad had to pull it out of my hands while I was trying to get my breath back and figure out what the *&^! happened. Checked into? What's the point? I wasn't nauseous, wasn't dizzy after I got back up, my pupils were evenly dilated; who wants to go wait at emergency for a minimum of three to four hours under *those* circumstances? Doctor wouldn't do anything except say somebody had to wake me up and talk to me every hour or so anyway. (Note: when I write about folks not wanting to go to doctors, I write reality where I'm concerned - I have no faith whatsoever in doctors in general and unless I'm deathly ill, I don't bother. Just like I don't bother with painkillers as a rule...)
Boring days off - I wish... And I wish it was only a couple; only day this week that I'm working was this morning for a half-day only. *Hopefully* we'll go back to regular Monday but even that's not a sure thing...

Date: 2003-08-22 03:39 am (UTC)So I've really been lucky actually. Lots of horse-related injuries but nothing too severe, fortunately. Feeling better overall today though crawling out of bed this morning was - interesting...
