Why, oh why, does HP seem to spawn so darn many AU xover drabbles/ficlets for me when every other fandom spawns long stories? And why won't the darn muse let me concentrate on my WIPs instead of providing me with these annoyingly persistent new plot bunnies? *sigh*

For the first time in centuries, the warning of a direct assault on the Potter clan head’s home shrieked through the family’s magic. Ancient wards and charms shivered and flared, the magic of long-forgotten Potter holdings and possessions struggling to respond to their master’s desperate need. Far from the devastating attack on Godric’s Hollow, the desperate call reached the crumbling hulk of an abandoned ancestral castle and sank into its very stone. Dormant defences activated, stasis spells released, and, all around the castle’s moonlit ramparts, weathered stone grated and shattered. The Potter clan guardians roared into furious life for the first time in over five hundred years and instantly launched into the night sky, powerful wings beating with frantic speed.

A mere handful of wingbeats later, a shock of magic signalled the passing of the Potter headship. Soon after, another burst bore the message that the Potter family had been reduced to a single, defenceless infant. The guardians pressed grimly onward, landing only when forced down by the rising sun. At sunset, they once again took to the air, adjusting course to follow their link to the Potter bloodline as the child’s location changed.

The sun rose on an empty doorstep at Number Four Privet Drive and a statue-filled clearing in the nearby forest. Cradled securely in stone arms, sheltered within granite wings, Harry Potter spent his first of many days yet to come in magical stasis-sleep. Henceforward, he would of necessity be as nocturnal as his guardians, the gargoyle defenders of his ancestral home.

*flails* OMG, I *love* Gargoyles! I was so heartbroken when they took it off the air... The later episodes weren't as good, but I still liked to watch it. Besides, there was always re-runs. *sigh* Oh man, I wish I could see Dumbledore's expression when he found out about *this* little turn of events... *snerk*

Gargoyles? Ok, that's really original. (and really interesting.)

As to where to put it. Just mark all drabbles as such with a big D right after the title. *hugs*

Glad to see you back.

I loved the early episodes and was less fond of the later episodes, too. I've got a few ideas kicking around for further ficlets in this AU - hopefully, they'll eventually make it into a postable format and you just might find out about Dumbledore's reaction to this turn of events. He's definitely not going to be amused, to say the least...

I have decidedly mixed feelings about Dumbledore and I have to admit that they tend to lean towards "he's a manipulative bastard who deserves a little suffering of his own - 'for the greater good', of course..." He may have his moments, but he seriously reminds me of Quentin Travers, from BtVS - always thinking that he knows best and justifying the most dreadful actions as 'necessary'.

I really can't recall seeing much in the way of Gargoyles crossovers in any of my favourite fandoms, for some odd reason. And, of course, that means that I have numerous little stone bunnies hopping around at night demanding to be written. :P

There may actually be more of the little drabble/ficlet format from me in future. I have quite a lot of little scraps of stories and lightly outlined plot bunnies kicking around on my hard drive. Rather than continuing to hold onto them 'just in case' I ever get around to turning them into a longer story, I may go ahead and turn them into short pieces and post them. After all, there's nothing stopping me from developing a ficlet into a multi-chapter (or a series of ficlets, which may work better for some ideas anyway) at some later date, muses willing and RL permitting.

*grins* Glad you liked it! A gargoyle-raised Harry would be a very interesting individual, methinks... And spoiling Dumbledore's plans always makes me happy...

Exactly. Unfortunatly I don't follow my own advice. I now have four major fics and half a dozen minor ones floating around on my HD. *sigh*

Doing anymore GW stuff? LWH has been pretty dead lately. Maybe it's finally gone to the fiction grave yard? Or is it still writer's block? Anywho, still lurking...*lurk*

Is there more? Can you tag the story specific so I can track it?
