Well, this little drabble ended up actually staying a drabble (472 words), at least for the moment. *pokes drabble* But I'm not too sure that drabbles are supposed to take longer to edit than to write... I've spent three days picking away at this after getting inspired and writing it in a matter of half an hour or so. Somehow, I don't think that's quite how drabbles are supposed to work... Oh well. At any rate, here's the drabble (request: HP, boggled, crossover) for [livejournal.com profile] amarin_rose:

And, in other news, criminals should take heed - Sailor V is back on the job! While Scotland Yard declined to officially comment on her return, anonymous sources within the law enforcement community have confirmed that the country’s loveliest crime-fighter is once again patrolling our streets and rooftops. No news on the reason behind either V’s long absence or her return but we can only hope that she’s back to stay.

Lying in his usual news-listening spot - the flowerbed beneath the livingroom window - Harry blinked in surprise. Well, that was certainly interesting, even if it wasn't exactly the kind of news that he'd been anxiously expecting all summer. Considering that Sailor V's exploits were nearly legendary in the Muggle world, he doubted that her very public accomplishments, no matter how fantastic they tended to be, were the least bit magical; the Ministry of Magic had rather strict laws against such things. Besides, the Dursleys, "freak" haters that they were, had never complained about Sailor V. In fact, Dudley'd practically wallpapered his room with Sailor V posters a few years ago. No, there'd definitely never been so much as a hint that Sailor V was a "freak".

On the other hand, it had been several years since Sailor V had last made headlines, so something big must have happened to lead to her unexpected reappearance. If June's events and Sailor V's return were completely unrelated, then the timing was certainly a mind-boggling coincidence.

As the newscast moved on to report on a water-ski budgerigar, Harry prepared to slip quietly away from his listening post under the window. The complete lack of anything remotely informative in the letters from his friends had left him with only the Muggle news as an information source. And, for some reason, his aunt and uncle seemed to think there was something very wrong with his interest in current events and did their best to prevent him from listening in. He didn’t want to lose his only source of information, as he certainly would if Uncle Vernon or Aunt Petunia caught him eavesdropping on the news report.

Of course, things didn’t work out quite as planned. Harry did get caught, and his day went downhill from there.

Though catching a glimpse of Sailor V bounding across the rooftops of Little Whinging while he and Dudley were squabbling their way home from the park was almost enough to make up for it all... Almost, that is, if he hadn’t gotten back to his room just in time to receive an owl bearing strict instructions that he was confined to the Dursleys’ house and yard until further notice as it was too dangerous for him to leave the property.

Harry crumpled up the note and scowled darkly. It was going to be a long, dull summer. Fifth year couldn’t start soon enough.

Hopefully, one of the other requests will decide to cooperate now...

Wow - interesting! ^^ And it reads more like a prologue (hinthint) then a mere drabble. :) I liked it.

*coughs* Uh, yeah. There's a few more notes scribbled down regarding just where things might be headed. Whether that ever turns into an actual story remains to be seen; another wip I do not need. Not that what I need will make any difference if this is the story that decides it wants to be written. *sigh*

Glad you enjoyed it.
