Contact lenses, anyone?
Mar. 24th, 2006 09:52 amI've been using Bausch & Lomb Optima FW (aka Soflens 38) contacts for years. However, at my last eye appointment, I requested a trial pair of a different type of lenses (Johnson & Johnson Acuvue Oasys) that have a higher water content (which means fewer dry-eye problems but the flip side is that they "float" more and therefore some people don't like them because they move too much). The Acuvue Oasys are a bit more expensive, too. However, the trial lenses are working really well for me, and feet, teeth, and eyes, are three things that I do not skimp on taking care of in terms of health and comfort, so I want to switch.
The problem is that I have four completely new, unopened, boxes (two for each eye) of the old Bausch & Lomb ones. If anyone out there in LJ-land happens to have a prescription for Optima FW (aka Soflens 38) lenses with a base curve of 8.7 and a power of -2.0 or -3.0 - have I ever got a deal for you. I have two boxes of BC 8.7, power -2.0, and two boxes of BC 8.7, power -3.0. There's six lenses per box, so that translates to a six-month supply, at the recommended two-week usage period. Current retail price at http://www.visiondirect.com (where I usually order from, since they're about twice as much if I buy them through my eye doctor) is $15.95 US per box, but I'm open to offers. I don't want them to go to waste, but I don't particularly want to have to use them up, either. They've worked fairly well for me for years (definitely much better than the non-disposable type I'd used before them), but they're not ideal for my working environment (air is very dry and I'm staring at a computer screen all day, which means I tend not to blink often enough to keep them well-moistened).
And if you do wear contacts, but not these, a word of advice... If there's anything even the slightest bit uncomfortable or inconvenient about your current lenses - specifically bug your eye doctor about trial pairs of alternatives. I've complained for years about the fact that I couldn't always wear my contacts because my sinuses/allergies were making my eyes dry and itchy, but he never offered an alternative until I specifically asked about the Acuvue Oasys. *rolls eyes*
Eye doctor: "Oh, you mean you'd like to try a pair?"
Me (stifling urge to say, "Well, *duh*..."): "Yes, please."
Eye doctor: "Well, we can certainly get those in for you..."
Me (stifling urge to thwap him upside the head and demand to know why he didn't offer before): "Thank you. I would appreciate that."
*grumble, mutter, grouse*
